The Elder Scrolls Online Buy to Play (B2P)?

I think it's safe to say we knew SOME change was coming. No, it's not a collective underwear changing by the AD Cyrodiil players as EP overnight 6-scroll dominates us night after night, it's a change in billing structure.  So what does that mean for GAME structure? Well, let's break down a few points from their press release and think about the long term effects on PVP, because PVE is soft clay still.

First:

- "...console launch on June 9th, ...no game subscription fees on PC/Mac March 17th."

We know that many players will be transitioning to Console because it's a cheaper all-in-one than a PC to play the game, so June 9th is when they'll get the chance to copy their characters to Xbox or Playstation Network, from what I recall. That will leave a huge power vacuum in almost every guild/campaign, and it will also be June, time for school to get out.

Huge population shift, Huge power shifts, HUGE influx of new players (Free kills? :D )


Second:

- "..Regular updates and new gameplay will be offered to all players to enjoy free of additional charge... optional, downloadable content available for purchase and in in-game Crown Store for convenience and customization items."

So, no buying of power, but buying of the opportunity to earn power. I don't know, I can dig it. I pay to play now, I will pay to play when it goes free, and I will continue to pay because this game is mind blowing in too many ways to stop :)

However, they will not be selling VR14 Legendary Sets for IRL $$$, so we still have that. We saw the Diablo 3 RMAH destroy the image of that entire franchise for a time, so fortunately no repeat here.  We also saw SWTOR have success with their F2P model in a large, open world MMORPG. I believe that if they stick to their guns with "No direct power buying" as indicated by this structure, they will succeed.

Third:

- Justice and Champions launches months before the Imperial City opens!!

This is the key part for me. It means I can start a new character JUST to be evil, and still have time to get them to a high level before the Imperial City launches. I can also dig that.

Overall I give this Press Release 2 thumbs up. Let's Buy and Play, shall we?

I stayed awake a bit too long last night considering how to "Up My Game," so to speak. A long conversation with an old friend sparked a new idea: How To!

People joining into Elder Scrolls Online PVP in Cyrodiil will need instruction, basically. Here's a bit of instruction on How To siege the Outer and Inner Walls of a Keep, essentially "Breaking In" :)

Thornblade: Week 2 Wrap-up

As the Campaign rolls along, the grim reality that we've been in third place for almost a week has set in. 

Fortunately, the result has been a lot of teamwork, multiple open guild groups, and a ton of wall repairing! 

With the half-way mark approaching, Scrolls have been traded on a daily basis for the past week, mostly Blue in the early PST morning hours, and Crystalized is still shooting for rank 50.

If you need AP, just press the Map button and look for the crossed swords! Larger swords represent larger battles.

Well the reality has set in. We lost the campaign to EP, that I believe is a math absolute, no arguing, maybe we'll cripple someone as we enter into the next Thornblade, but we definitely have had a close campaign!

Personally I still think Zangief's 30 hour Emperor run with a 9k point gain early on drove home the win for them (See earlier post), and the hard fought scroll defenses in the past few days proves the Pact deserves the win.

Another factor early on (First two weeks mainly) was the rearranging of AD guilds, much of which has settled now for the coming campaign. We'll see who has more firepower! I've seen some DC faces around that are going to cause plenty of Havoc...

The Perfect Storm

 

Zangief the Dragonknight became Emperor of the Ebonheart Pact, and began his destruction of the Dominion on the morning of 12/8/2014 in Thornblade, NA Server...

Caught on video is the 39 minutes from when I logged in till my internet went out, including the 50+ kills the Emperor got on us at Brindle. I didn't notice he was emperor though, he never changed his title :) On purpose? Dunno he was too busy killing people to respond :D
